Matteo Thun, architect and designer, was born in Bolzano - Italy. He studied at Salzburg Academy under Oskar Kokoschka and at the University of Florence. After meeting Ettore Sottsass, he co-founded the "Memphis" group in Milan and became partner of Sottsass Associati from 1980 to 1984. From 1983 to 2000, he taught design at the University of Applied Arts in Wien (Hochschule für Angewandte Kunst). In 1984, he founded his own firm in Milan. From 1990 to 1993, he was Art Director for Swatch. Matteo Thun & Partners together with partners Luca Colombo, Herbert Rathmaier and Antonio Rodriguez develops architecture and design projects. The firm works with a team of 50 professionals including architects, designers and graphic designers. Architecture Economic, ecological and socio-cultural sustainability is one of the project pillars of Matteo Thun & Partners' architecture. Matteo's works Thun means durable solutions with an holistic approach. This concept is based on the highest aesthetic, economic and technological sustainability standards. Design Product design has to respect and mirror the brand's spirit. Matteo Thun Design is pared down to the sheer essential, without being minimal. Simple does not stand for meaning loss, but for elegance as the result of a progressive approach to the iconic form. Awards During his career, he was awarded multiple times for Matteo Thun projects in the architecture, interior and product design fields. Among the many awards, he received the "Compasso d'Oro" three times and, in 2004, he got into the New York Hall of Fame. In 2004, he won the Best Hotel “Panda d'Oro” by WWF for the Vigilius Mountain Resort (Merano, Italy) and, in 2010, he received the “Best of “ Wallpaper* Design Award for two product projects.
